Things to do in Hong Kong

Recommended Posts

Ken,

With only two days there, plus your focus on Russian aviation subjects, I'd suggest you go to Continental in the Yau Ma Tei District. Its inventory is vast and is close to areas frequented by tourists (ie safe and not too dodgy). The famed UML stores are also worth a visit, but they don't carry any Chinese or Korean kits, which rules out the vast majority of Russian stuff.

Continental is on Nathan Road. Sorry I don't remember the exact address. It's located on the same block as "Wing On" department store - simply circle around the block and you will find it on the (I think) north side. While you're there, don't forget to check out the box of decal sheets (just ask the owner). They have a lot of unique sheets (mostly PLAAF, ROCAF) that are not available in the West.

HTH.

Continental is not on Nathan Rd. It is actually on a side street a short block paralle to Nathan Rd. Another good landmark is the Eaton Hotel across Nathan Rd from Continental.

I was there last week, it is Pak Hoi Street, where Wing On is on. Also if you go down Dundas Street on the other side of Nathan Road opposite UML, then down Kwong Wa Street you will come across some out of the way model shops and some better prices. UML was doing 20% off HK$500 or 30% off HK$1000 spent when I was there.

Had a great time there and the food is superb.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for the advice guys - much appreciated.

Sorry for not replying sooner - my PC has been at the repair shop for 4 weeks !!! :(

I was in HK as a nipper - 50 years ago !!!!

That was when it was a British Colony - my old man was in the army and was stationed there for three years (1957 to 1960).

I've never been back and I expect I won't recognise anywhere - but it will certainly bring back some memories..... :woot.gif:

Im with Jennings; I like the way he thinks.

Im thinking the chance to visit a genuine Chinese bath house should not be missed, either. Hobby shops are all over, but a chinese bath has got to be something you wont partake of on any common day.
