I scratched F14A fairings type, because B type were provided in the kit, and they were not realistic:

As for my weathering technique, it's quite simple.

I start with a black preshading. I use Humbrol 85.

Then i spray my color in a irregular way ... As if I coloured with a pencil

I fill the center of panels and let the preshading effect visible trough.

Then i spray lighter color, always in a not regular way, trying to create patches and spots...

A contrasting effect now happens between the two shades....

You can do the same operation with darker color... it will give more variation, but dont overdo it...

A tip for weathering effect on Navy planes :

I spray some lines with a brown/rust color, then i overspray them with a narrower line of light grey

After the painting process, i spray a coat of future/klir;

i put the decals, and spray again klir on them

Then i apply a Humbrol black wash, wich i wipe with a coton swab dipped in thinner in the relative wind direction.

It lets some traces.

Then i let some oil paint spots ( brown, yellow...) wich i wipe with a brush
