Boman
Ok, I have goggled my eyes big and blue, but without luck. So I try here; Can someone please help me out with the length and dimension of the LAU-68 rocket launcher? The reason is that I am building models, and have several versions of this pod in the stash, however non are the same in size . So, I need the actual dimensions in order to calculate wich is the correct size - if any ? In case you wonder, the scale is 1/48 Thanks in advance
Sabre Freak
The reference I have: Length (in): 61.29 Diameter (in): 9.80 14 inch lug suspension I'm not so sure about the length dimension though. It is not clear from my reference if the length is with or without fairings. The reference is called "Weapons File" 6th edition published by the office of the Armament Product Directorate (APD) for the Air Armament Center, Eglin AFB Edited August 16, 2008 by Sabre Freak

Boman
Thanks guys - excellent! This means that in 1/48, the length should be 3,24cm and the diameter 0,52cm - luckilly I have one that just about matches this in my stash :P Not sure where I got them, but I belive it came from Italieris' UH-N kit  Figures give without front- or endcap in place. Checked the LAU-68 that comes with Italieri's A-10, and it is too long, but this can be easelly fixed by cutting of 1,2cm of the mid-body parts to shorten it. As for those in the Tamiya A-1, these become too short and too narrow in diameter. Too bad, as they are fairly good. Guys, thank you very much for all help - this one's from me Edited August 16, 2008 by Boman
Finn
Before you start cutting, there are various LAU rockets of assorted sizes out there so the ones from the A-1 and A-10 kits may suit other types. Jari
Boman
Could you add to that, Finn? I agree if you talk about LAU-131/3 (19-shot) but for the LAU-68, there is surely only one type? Isn`t it?
Finn
If you go to this site: http://maic.jmu.edu/ordata/search.asp select the following Category: Clusters and Dispensers Country: United States Munition Name: Lau and you will get various types of rocket pods, 19 and 7-6 tubes types, and the sizes of them. Since you specifically are talking about the LAU-68, there are several variants, /A, A/A, B/A and D/A, same dia but different lengths. Jari
Reddog
The only LAU-68 currently in use with the USN/USMC is the LAU-68D/A which is 59.8 inches long without the fairings and 10.2 inches in diameter. The reason the dimensions match the ones in the Air Forces weapons data file is because the LAU-68D/A is thermally coated, the Air Force doesn't use thermal coated weapons. I believe the A/F has stopped using the LAU-68's and have started using the LAU-131 and I believe the info in the A/F weapons data book is a little out of date since the Mk 4 and Mk 40 Rockets Motors have been removed from service years ago. The LAU-131 is just a non-thermally coated LAU-68D/A. The differences between the LAU-68's variants was in the safety switch and internal wiring, not in dimensions.
