Robert Johnson's shot up P-47

Recommended Posts

Hi, fellas! i was wondering if anyone can email me or point me to a picture of Robert Johnson's P-47 that was nearly shot out from under him. It's a P-47C S/N 41-6235 with fuselage code HV-P "Half pint". I was hoping to get pics of the actual damage from that flight. any help you guys can provide will be much appreciated!

Thanks, fellas!

So, i have 4 pics now of the damage done (as well as a nice pic of Robert Johnson just looking cool infront of his jug). are there any other pics? I'd like to post them here, but i'm not too sure about the copyright issues and i'd rather not violate them. I have 2 different views of the damage to the canopy taken from the port side (inlcuding the one above), damage of the bottom of the rudder (taken from the starboard side as shown above), and from the littlefriends.co.uk website, i have one of an over all picture taken from about the aircraft's 4 o'clock.

Are there any pics of the wings? i'm wondering how he was able to fire the guns on this aircraft since he most certainly got hit along the wings. Keep the pictures coming (if any)!

Thanks again, for all the help!

Please post your photos. I have another one in a book somewhere, I'll see if I can find it tomorrow, so check in later. I think you're going to have to use some historical creativity when it comes to some of the damage. I don't think you'll find any photos documenting every bullet hole and torn panel. So I say have fun and do the best you can.

and these two from littlefriends.co.uk

This is a project i'll have to do a lot of guess work for, and a lot of planning, so i don't intend to start until late next year at best. I'd just like for it to be as "probable" as possible, for example, i have no idea if a 7.92 bullet could punch through a P-47 wing.

Thanks again for all the help, fellas! It's much appreceated. ;)
