Aigore
Time for a new project! I felt for another Mirage, this time a biiig one My subject will be a Mirage IVA in 1/48th scale from Heller. I chose the IVA since I felt like doing a NMF birdy. Another reason might be of a purely masochistic nature, it msses a windscreen and since it´seems to be hard to get a new one I just had to rise to the challenge and build the model!! How the quest for a new winsdscreen ends remains to be seen. Anyways I´ve ordered a resin tub from neomega and some decals from hannant´s hopefully they´ll arrive in a while...at least the cockpit! It´s an old kit and molded in the familiar soft Heller plastic, and it´s big! probably about the size of the Viggie but with cool looking deltawings! I´ll have to rescribe the kit since it´s got raised panellines in fact that´s the first thing I´ll do. Since it´ll be an A model this here nuclear ASMP missile won´t be needed... Luckily the box contained an old nuke as well...and that´s what´s going to hang under the belly on this baby! The first step is to get the parts that´ll be rescribed off the sprues. It´s got very wide injectionsprues and they´ll come off with my razor saw :) Some part will have to be assembled before scribing begins...like this here nuke. I need to align the raised panels as well as possible so that scribing them later will be easier, I don´t want to scribe a halve at a time because I´d be so sad if the lines doesn´t align! :P The tools for scribing! A tamyia scriber, a sharp awl, templates and Dymo tape. To the scribing! First I take a strip of Dymo tape, because of the shape of the air intake I can´t do the whole line in one go but have to scribe it a little at a time. The important thing when using a scriber is not to use too much force! Just pull the scriber gently and then you have a line, pull more times and it deepens. First off I do a pretty light line and when the entire line is scribed around the intake I do a couple of pulls along the entire scribed line to even it out. First line scribed! Then I just continue like that for every line that needs to be scribed. I have a little scribing to do now and it´ll take a while, but actually not as long as you´d think. The tricky bits are the double curved lines but the Dymo tape is pretty flexible but still strong enough for the scriber to lean against. So far so good :) Cheers and thanx for peeping! I don't have the ability to vac something, but I don't see why I couldn't make a mold and cast a resin one for someone to vac one for you...actually..is there clear resin? Let me do some research...at the very least I'll be happy to make a resin copy that you could try to vac... does that make sense? Cheers, Dave

As you know i am building an Mirage f1 of the Greek Air Force. The rpoblem with that is that the stencils and mainly the keep off lettering is in english and not in french. So i am looking for stencils but specialy the keep off signs in 1/48 decals if someone has spare. Not looking for all the decals. Please!

jr_rules2
If you are looking for decent decals, check these out, they are a reprint of the UpNorth sheet from a few years ago. And they give you both the camo and NMF birds. http://www.smds.ws/proddetail.php?prod=SMDS48004D And a scribing template http://www.smds.ws/proddetail.php?prod=SMDS48001P There are other resin thingies for the mirage IV on their site as well. By the way, you are off to a great start and can't wait to see updates! :D Edited December 10, 2008 by jr_rules2

Aigore
The scribing continues.... Now I´m at the wings...I´ve done the upper surfaces already so they´re done at least, and now it´s time for the lower surface. It´s really nothing special to it, a long strip of Dymotape and I´ve aligned it with the existing panelline. I don´t sand off the old lines until I´ve scribed the new lines...yes that means that the lines are almost the same as the old ones and I haven´t looked at linedrawings to see if I eed to move any. This is the simplest and fastest method. Well I´ve aligned the tape with the old line and then I simply scribe the new.... The I move to the next one and do the same and so on... That was the easy scribing..now we get to the templates:D Of course I don´t have any round templates so I have to make do with the oval ones for inspection hatches and I use a sharp awl for this. I just hold the template with my fingers and scribe a half circle Like so.... And then the other half so I get a full circle! And i do the same with the rest of those small inspection hatches. Not much of an update really but I got requests to show every step on this...so I hope it´s something useful to somebody I´ve recieved some other tape in the mail from pactra, I´ll try that out on the curved lines on curved surfaces...it´s supposed to be really good...so that´s for the next update when they finally let me out from work:P Cheers!
