Jaypack44
Hi All. Here's one of my current projects, and my first real conversion (though admittedly it's not much of a conversion) It's Tamiya's 1:48 F4U-1D Kit, detailed and converted to F4U-1C status. The first step was detailing the cockpit, which was done with bits and pieces of styrene. I scratchbuilt the throttle and other sidewall details, and both side consoles recieved their fair share of detail parts: Left Console: Right Console (minus the map case) Instrument Panel/front bulkhead seat/rear bulkhead w/ scratchbuilt frame Landing gear After all the detailing, it was time for paint: Completed right sidewall completed consoles Here's the whole interior prior to final assembly
Jaypack44
Then work continued to the rest of the airframe The main conversion work was simply changing the wings to -1C type, which was done by first filling the lines marked here, and then rescribing the ammo panels to have two doors instead of three The horizontal stabilizer trim tab actuators were replaced with styrene and bits of a guitar string (my other hobby), and all the other actuators also recieved bits of guitar strings. The canopy also recieved some detail from styrene and stretched sprue Once everything was assembled, I added the cannon fairings from .080 tube, and blisters over the breeches using .040 and .020 sheet cut and sanded to shape. The engine recieved some wiring as well as minor scratchbuilt detail(prop governor and little bits on the magnetos) The whole thing was painted with AeroMaster Gloss dark sea blue (don't worry, the camera flash made it look lighter than it is) And that's where it stands now. It will eventually be marked with superscale decals for a/c #11 from VF-85 on the USS Shangri-La As always, and questions/comments/constructive criticism would be most welcome. Thanks for looking
F106A
Wow! My son built that cheap-o Testor's Corsair and it really got him interested in doing a decent one. This will be some motivation! Keep 'em coming! Mark
