Just wondering if anyone has heard anything more about Sea Vixens in 1/48. The Mk.1 and Mk.2 from MPM and Xtrakit are all but guaranteed now, but the brief mention of a 1/48 counterpart (albeit only a Mk.1) was all there was and even that's hard to pin down.

Living in hope ... :thumbsup:

MPM is the only one that is said to exist. On Hyperscale earlier this year there was a mention of Trumpeter doing a DH 110 which I think was the designation of the Sea Vixen in 48th. Note that the actual quote was a bit confusing. it's post #6 in my rumor thread linked here

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11270

And for those who hate to follow links here is the meat of that post. Note one is attributed to Hyperscale and I have not figured out a way to link to threads on HS yet.

Okay dokey...a new rumor to be added, spotted over on Hyperscale and IPMS Phillipines...

Trumpeter Sea Vixen?

On HS there was a ref to a DH 110 which was the mfg designation for the Sea Vixen wasn't it, in the same bit mentioning The Sea Fury

<clip>

And I know that from the Czech Republic that a 1/72 then 1/48 DH110 Sea Vixen is on it's way (Ok I know it's the MKI but at least it's a Vixen in 1/48)

How cool is this? And possibly Trumpeter are contemplating the DH110 as well as the Sea Fury.

<clip>

On IPMS Phillipines in The review of the Eduard Fulmar a mention is made of all of the FAA 48ths released over the past couple of years.....

<clip>

As another wish for FAA fans has been granted by the release of this cleanly designed and underrated, yet significant FAA aircraft, the release of a number of 1/48th scale FAA aircraft in the recent years like the Roc, Skua, Barracuda, Albacore and the Firefly (and the Sea Hornet, Wyvern, Sea Venom, Attacker, Seahawk Sea Venom and the Gannet for post-war aircraft) makes one hope that the promise of a 48th Sea Vixen will not be too far away.

....promise of a 48th Sea Vixen?!?!

Now IPMS Philipines is where we get most of our first looks at Trumpeter stuff, though maybe they are mentioning the promise of a Czech molded kit. But then again maybe not.

Rumormongering is a fat free sugar substitute

Just remember this is just a post from a rumor thread that I'd picked up. Some of the rumors I'd hoped to see at Shizouka didn't pan out, so just remember that when thinking about the possibility. Better yet buy the MPM kit, nothing guarentees a Trumpeter kit of a FAA type quicker than a purchased short run Czech kit of one (Sea Hawk, Wyvern...)

No, not yet. There won't be a 1/48 injection-molded kit released until one week before I finish my Dynavector vac kit.

Ben

Well, that's pretty much what I was thinking too. That's how the Trumpeter 1/48 Sea Fury appeared - a matter of seconds after I'd finished my Hobbycraft one, out came the announcement ...

Matt mentions rumours of a DH.110. That would be good but would, strictly speaking, be the original RAF prototype, rather different from the naval variant - but a hopeful sign nonetheless!

The DH 110 was the original version, famous onlt for the Farnbrough crash. This lost out to the Javelin and was then navalised and selected by the RN as the Sea Vixen. A Sea Vixen makes more sense than a 110 but whats sense got to do with it? Did we need a choice of 3 x 1/48 Wyverns?

1/48 Sea Vixen, its been around for years, here's mine from 2001.

Don't read too much into DH 110....

It was just exactly how the original poster quoted the rumor. Perhaps it was quicker than typing Sea Vixen, I don't know. Usually British a/c are not refered to by thier builders designation so that is why I mentioned that the original rumor was worded 'confusingly'

Nothing really since on the rumor of a Trumpy/HB kit, anymore than the Gannet and Scimitar ones from last year, though in my Britmodeller thread 'Tigger' mentions (or is linked to his threads) that in his visit to the Trumpeter factory he saw releases planned clear up to 2010 (but no hints - buy the Tamiya mag his article will hopefully be in, in a couple of issues - July or August I think). A Sea Vixen would be neat but BIG. I remember my sole build was the old Frog one and I was surprised at the size of it, especially sitting next to one of my Sea Harriers at the time.

DH110 is simply the design number for the Sea Vixen, that the original prototype was somewhat different makes no odds.

Good list of DH numbers here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland#...illand_aircraft

As for a 1/48 kit, Hannants seem to think it's on the way: http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=MPM48064
