Trumpeter 1/32 Eurofighter Typhoon

Recommended Posts

I guess I'm first to give some sort of a build report for this monster :yahoo:

Most people are waiting for the Revell kit so I don't think Trump is selling boatloads of em.

This is what I've got so far:

The cockpit. The seat is the wrong variant of the MK.16A, so I had to add some detail:

100_2811.JPG

I added fabric , some PE, mix of homemade seatbelts and the trumpeter PE and tubing. For the tub I only added some PE on the back wall

Cocpit in place:

Nothing is provided for the side consoles.... except for an ejector pin mark...so some improv is needed there untill someone comes with a resin pit.

The fit is pretty good so far.

And then this:

100_2837.JPG

What the hell is this supposed to be???? :jaw-dropping:

I can't really imagine that the real plane has these ribs in the intake ducts

upper right wing:

wheelbays, not bad...not great either

"It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it!"

I've been waiting to see how this one goes together so thank you for sharing your progress.

I'm eager to see how it looks once complete.

Please keep us posted and good luck.

;)

*Edit*,.....p.s, that HUD combiner glass is crying out for some irridescent film or confetti.........

Yep, the typhoon's hud seems to be some kind of light blue. I'm going to give it a coat of thinned clear blue, but I'm out of thinner, so that's for tomorrow.

WOOWWWW .... I'm going to watch this one for sure!!! Nice pit btw.

Me too- and good luck with those intakes! Those look a lot worse than the Tamiya F-4 and F-14A, which are horrible. Nothing 2 weeks of cutting, sanding and molding sheet styrene won't fix! :woot.gif:

Thanks for getting the WIP up so soon!

Just received mine this week.

You going to use an intake cover and make it painless?

Nope, I'm doing this the hard way

I think trumpeter put the ribs there to cover the alignement pins, so those will have to go too. I think 30 minutes with a dremell, 2 hours of wetsanding and a can of latex paint will do the trick.... and if not I can still put some intake covers on it  .

Now this WIP is veeeery interesting...I'll follow with great interest even if it's not the scale I love...but it's gonna be a great one since you're a great modeller dude.

Awesome work on the pit...from a very rude OOB pit you pulled out a great thing!

Now you gotta tell me how you've done the texture of the seat LOL

Cheers

Congrats on giving this kit a try, and I do like what you have done wit the cockpit! I'm with Jack on that, reveal all with resect to how you did the seat fabric!

Certainly seems like Trumpeter ended up rushing this kit to market to beat Revell--but it looks like you will more than make up for Trumpeter's shortcomings :woo:

Thanks all for the support

Little update for today:

Some more bits added, so far so good...

100_2848.JPG

100_2849.JPG

100_2850.JPG

exhaust, just a black hole in the pic

100_2851.JPG

100_2852.JPG

wheelbays...

100_2853.JPG

the exhaust is actually pretty detailed, but I wonder why, you can't see anything when finished, and you can't take the engine out like with the tamiye F-16

100_2854.JPG

Took care of the intakes,....

100_2858.JPG

The loadout:

Asraam, Storm shadow(actually apache, but they look the same to me) alarm, meteor and a few ecm pods. ( Not sure if this is final, i may just put 6 LGB's under the thing)

100_2863.JPG

But worse was to come...

100_2859.JPG

The fit of the intakes is really, really bad. the tubes are too big in diameter. and all the other pieces are like they aren't meant to be together

big seams where the fuselage meets the wings, and at the back ...

conclusion so far:

But we'll be allright...

Bye for now, and thanks for stopping by.

Hi, it's good to see you pressing on with this build and I'm very interested to see how this model looks after all of the discussion around the net.

Thanks all for the support

No reflection on your build but I have to say that the rear trunking in the photo above looks decidedly off to my eyes.....

Compare the rear of the aircraft where the jet nozzles protrude here, Does the shape appear wrong or is it my imagination? It's a little difficult to tell from the angle but the rearmost part seems to slope down on the model instead of following the line of the fuselage on the full sized aircraft. Is this the case?

Cheers,

Yes, it is wrong and have been discussed in the jet forum. But we are not supposed to talk about faults in kits "that is even not out yet" because people can be hurt...

Oh well.

Thanks all. About the rear... Yes it is off, it slopes down too much, but is impossible to "quickfix". The engines and nozzles are too small so you would have to make new ones as well. As for an aftermarket sollution... that depends on how good the revell kit is. If that one is better, with the correct trunk and exhaust, IMO it won't be smart to bring out correction sets for the trump kit. But I can live with faults like that, doesn't bother me....yet. I plan on making a revell typhoon when it comes out, and if the differance is too big, this kit will get binned.

As for the fabric in the seat, it is just fabric that I glued onto the plastic parts, nothing fancy.

Edit:

100_2868.JPG

Not as bad as it seems but it still slopes down. Allso, the nozzles aren't correct either. between the feathers and the trunking, there should be a ring. But that's fixable.

That's a terrific side view shot of your model and corresponds perfectly with the pic I linked to. Thanks for posting it.

Now that I've seen this image it looks like the nozzles might be the correct size and it could be that the fuselage is wrong..... ?

The proportion of the nozzles to the tail looks pretty good but there seems to be a hump along the fuselage when it should be straight and follow the line of the nozzle petals. Very interesting.......

Your exhaust nozzles look absolutely superb. Great metal effect you've managed there

I'm enjoying this build. :salute:
