Lucien Harpress
Biplanes and pre-WWII aviation is something that I'm beginning to delve into. I had built a biplane before, but I needed more practice with rigging. I'm never one for moderation, so here it is- my second biplane ever, Maquette's Ilya Muromets in 1/72. For a full build, check out my thread in the In-Progress section HERE. Now, just for fun, here's a shot of my entire collection so far. Any questions/comments/whatever welcome. Big Kev
That is really fantastic Lucien! I admire your skill and determination. I'm curious about the Spruce Goose in the collection shot - details? Kev
Lucien Harpress
Ah, the Spruce Goose. Where to begin? Well, I picked that "kit" (I use the term very loosely) a year or two ago, and started it very soon after I got it. It was a very limited run vacuform by Heavykits (he only made 25) that I was lucky to get my hands on, if you can call it that. I've struggled with getting it together ever since I bought the thing. I've needed to replace many, many, MANY parts simply because the vacuforming process made the regular kit pieces a joke. For example, the entire cockpit roof? Replaced. That, in addition to an interior, planing bottom, all trailing edges, and nacelle booms. The rudder and tail needed to be replaced twice (and still need to be fabricated as of now), the ailerons about six times. I'm currently waiting for some decent sheet styrene to finish up on the wings, but I've been waiting for five months now. I hope to get the sucker done by the time I'm out of college, soooo........... I have two more years. We'll see.........
ChernayaAkula
Very nice model! A plane form the days when planes were made to look like birds. Very cool! Nice collection! :D Edited February 20, 2008 by ChernayaAkula
Aggressor Supporter
Good to see the biplane done. You did a good job on it. The wires looks very intricate. And seeing that Spruce Goose there, I thought the B-36 was huge!
Jamie Cheslo
Good God, that thing has more fishing line than my Shimano rod and reel! Lucien, you scare me, man.

loftycomfort
holy crap that's a lot of rigging. bi-planes are not my thing but this one certainly looks cool. Cheers, Terry
jeff briner
Lucien, That rigging job is sweeeet!!! Man, you have nothing to apologize for with that one. It is one fine piece of model building. You have every right to be proud of that one. Keep it in sight while you work on the Goose. It will remind you that you can accomplish great things if you just stick with it. Thanks for the great pics and best of luck on that Goose.
