ismaelg
Hello, I know this can be a bit cheesy, but as a teenager in the late 80's, I fell in love with this concept. Stealth was the IN thing. For some reason I did not get it immediately, and it was then impossible to find, never reissued. For years, it was almost an obsession to find. Fast forward to early 2006, I finally got it from eBay. It was build pretty much box stock. Wow! this is my first aircraft built in 10 years, and my first helicopter in almost 12 years! Here is a spy picture that proves it does exists Ain't Photoshop great? :D I like how it turned out after so many years of cars-only modeling. Now I can go for something more serious. What do you think? Your comments are appreciated. Thanks, Ismael Gonzalez Puerto Rico Edited November 16, 2006 by ismaelg
Kingoalie
I think that's really neat. Good job on it! What kit is it though and what scale? :D John
ikar
I like it, who made the kit? That would look good next to my Commanche.
ismaelg
Thanks, That kit was released by Testors only once in 1989. It is 1/48 scale. Here is a picture of the box. Thanks, Ismael Gonzalez Puerto Rico
richuk
I've never seen this helicopter before. Did it ever get out the drawing room and actually flew or was it purely a concept aircraft? Great build BTW. Looks good in marine livery. Thanks for posting. Rich

You did a nice job with your LHX. Like the scheme and clean finish. Edited November 14, 2006 by Raptor Supporter

Rich richuk, Back in the late '80s, they started doing research about incorporating stealth technology into helicopters. Testors did this concept based on the stealth elements of the day. This was part of a 3 model series of stealth concepts by Testors that also included the F19 stealth fighter and the Mig-37 Ferret Soviet Stealth concept. As far as I know, all 3 were purely design sketches by Testors, and not based in any specific project. The helicopter is the least common of the 3 models and have never been reissued. Thanks for for your nice comments! Thanks, Ismael Gonzalez Puerto Rico
grandadjohn
Great job, remember the kit. maybe somedat it will be re-issued, Testors(Italeri?) are you listening
Cobrahistorian
Hmmm... interesting. I remember the kit well and looking at it, they may have had access to a little more than imagination. Look at the similarity between the intakes on the "Stingbat" and the Comanche. The Testors "F-19" kit had a bit more than imagination as its inspiration as well. If you look at the early prototypes of the F-117, the tails are canted inwards over the exhaust very much like the F-19 model. I may have to get this kit, just so I can put it in CARC drab and Army markings! Jon

Green-Meanie
looks a bit like the whispercraft from The 6th Day. Always thought they were pretty cool aircraft. I liked the way the rotor locked down to become a fixed wing. :D
Vesper
Just a sidenote, Italeri still makes the MiG-37, in 1/72 IIRC. Ves :D

Big Nick
Very nice build! Just one question, how did you get the decals to stick down? Today I tried using the set I had and they just curled up and died on me. MicroSol, MicroSet, patience etc, nothing worked. Nick
ismaelg
Nick, First of all, a disclaimer: I HATE DECALS! and decals hate me <_< That's the main reason why I build mostly factory stock model cars instead of more aircrafts and race cars. That been said, this is what I did: Since the decals were 16+ years old, I sprayed them with a light coat of decal fix from the Testor's decal kit I got in WalMart. Then, after the model was painted, I airbrushed a few light coats of Tamiya clear. I waited about 2 days and lightly polished it. Then applied the decals and let it dry for a day or two, and finally, airbrushed good old Testors dullcoat all over it. I hope this helps! Thanks, Ismael Gonzalez Puerto Rico
The Wooksta!
Wow! That's really neat. I never did get round to building the one I got as a companion for the AMT/ERTL Airwolf. BTW, Aoshima have a new kit out of Airwolf and allegedly it's a new tool. Which is a load of poo - it's a copy of the ERTL one.
helikitnews
The Stingbat kit was first issued by Italeri in 1989, as #826. It was re-boxed by Testors. Cheers, CJ www.helikitnews.com
