ChernayaAkula
So, I had promised in THIS THREAD that I’ll upload some pics as soon as I’ll get the kit. Well, here they are! Box art: Sprues: The detail is engraved all round. Note the surprisingly large amount of flash. It seems that all Revell kits made in Poland suffer from that.
ChernayaAkula
Weapons: The kit coes with a wide array of weapons. You’ll get Sidewinders (x2), ASRAAMs (x2), AMRAAMs (x4), Meteors (x4), IRIS-Ts (x2) for air-to-air weaponry. For air-to-ground, you’ll get two each of the Taurus and Storm Shadow, as well as two 1000ltr drop-tanks. Note that the Taurus and IRIS-Ts are on a separate sprue. These two weapon systems will also be used on the Luftwaffe Tornados. Maybe they’re thinking about a Tornado rebox with new weaponry ? :) I’m not too sure, but I guess the same could be said of the ASRAAM and Storm Shadow sprue, this time for a RAF Tornado? Some details: Note the intakes for the Taurus to the left and right of the instrument panel – it looks like the mold was misaligned. The rest of that sprue, however, seems to be okay. ChernayaAkula
The transparencies…. ….live up to their name. For the opened canopy, a little scratch-building is required. :)
ChernayaAkula
The decals: are all in register. Apart from all the (readable!) maintenance stencils, they offer options for: Luftwaffe: Jagdgeschwader 73 “Steinhoffâ€, Laage, 2007 Jagdgeschwader 74, Neuburg, 2007 Austrian Air Force, 2007 Royal Air Force No. 3 Sqn, RAF Coningsby, UK, 2005-07 No. 11 Sqn, RAF Coningsby, UK, 2005-07 No. 17 Sqn, RAF Coningsby, UK, 2005-07 No. 29 ( R ) Sqn, RAF Coningsby, UK, 2005-07 Italian Air Force 4° Stormo, 9° Gruppo, Grosseto, 2006 Exemplary instructions: Note that all four RAF markings are displayed on one page. Watch out, there! Spanish Air Force Grupo 11, 113 Escuadron, Moron Air Base, 2006 Instructions: Overall, it looks like a great kit. The only real downside I could find is the amount of flash. Apart from that, this one lhas the looks of a winner. The engraved panel lines are nicely done, as is the rest of the detail. You get two choices of engine nozzles – opened and closed. The weapons range is enormous. (I guess I’ll cut the usual side blow at Hasegawa – oops! :) ) And the decals are just awesome. While the dual-seater received much applause, I guess it is safe to say that this one will too. And rightly so! Hope you liked my little review! thegoodsgt
Wow, awesome decals! If they were from an aftermarket company they'd be worth $15 alone. Speaking of the decals, has anyone had any experience with Revell's decals in this range of kits? Hoping they're top flight, of course.
ChernayaAkula
Ah, damn, I forgot! :) The price I paid for my kit was 9.90 EUR. Recommended retail price is 10.99 EUR here in Germany. So I guess you can figure what it'll go for in your respective countries. Concerning the decals, I have read in a thread on this very kit that they behave the way they are supposed to.. Steven, They're excellent. I used them on my two seat Typhoon build as well as one of my Tornados and they worked real well. You're right, that is one awesome decal sheet. Can't wait for this release to hit the States.

barkin mad
Does the canopy have a mold line running down the center as in the 2 seater? The decal sheet does look good, it looks like it will take about a week to apply all the stencils. -------------
Aggressor Supporter
Very nice. Just like it's 1/48 big brother.
Nev
Excellent stuff, thanks Moritz! Delighted to see that Revell have included all 4 RAF squadrons on the decal sheet. As I've said before, their Typhoon kits will be cash cows for Revell for the next 20 years. Now all we need is a 1/32 kit..... I shall be picking myself one up at the earliest possible opportunity ;)
Andre
Agreed - picked one up yesterday and it's a good 'un! And you'll be left with plenty ordinance items for the spares box... I can already see the IRIS-T's on a Norwegian F-16AM! Cheers, Andre
Will2K65
Looks awesome, just like the 1/48 version. I really want a 1/48 twin seater myself
Raymond
that open canopy 'scratchbuild' is a right riot!! i guess they forgot to include parts when making it..damn thats odd though! kinda a realyl bad copout IMHO Edited April 20, 2007 by Raymond
ChernayaAkula
Does the canopy have a mold line running down the center asin the 2 seater? Yes, it has. On the moving part only, though. AFAIK, it is a necessity to allow for the bubble effect and should be easily fixable. that open canopy 'scratchbuild' is a right riot!! i guess they forgot to include parts when making it..damn thats odd though! kinda a realyl bad copout IMHO I thought so, too! Someone must have screwed up big time!
Mercury
Thanks for the shots!! Love that decal sheet!! Will have to look for this one next time at LHS...is it a possibility to use those IRIS-T's on a Cdn Hornet?
Murph
Thanks for the shots!! Love that decal sheet!! Will have to look for this one next time at LHS...is it a possibility to use those IRIS-T's on a Cdn Hornet? Link here. Defesanet 07 Dezembro 2005Diehl 05 Dezembro 2005 IRIS-T – the World's Highest-Performance, Short-Range, Air-To-Air Guided Missile With delivery of the first IRIS-T (InfraRed Imaging System – Tail/Thrust-Vector Controlled) missiles to the German Federal Office für Military Technology and Procurement (BWB), Diehl will start series deliveries of over 4,000 guided missiles to the six European program nations in late 2005. The air forces of Germany and the partner nations Greece, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Spain will receive the latest-generation air-to-air guided missile as standard weapon system for the Eurofighter, Gripen, F-16, F-18 and Tornado aircraft types. Over decades, Diehl BGT Defence has gathered experience as prime contractor, project manager and system integrator of large European and transatlantic development and production programs. As system house, Diehl BGT Defence has delivered more than 35,000 Sidewinder missiles of various types to almost all NATO partners since the early 1960s. Sidewinder is an air-to-air missile for use within the pilot's visual range. The missile has been integrated in almost all European and US fighter aircraft and is today in service in more than 30 countries. In the mid-1990s, Diehl BGT Defence decided to design a new short-range missile, based on own studies. In 1996, the definition phase began, which was followed by the 4-year development phase in 1998, in which Greece, Italy, Canada, Norway and Sweden participated. In 2002, Spain joined the IRIS-T consortium and Canada left it. In January 2003, the German Parliament approved German procurement of the new weapon system and in October of the same year, the six nations involved in development agreed on series preparation. In December 2004, the contract on IRIS-T series production was signed by BWB and Diehl BGT Defence, with BWB acting on behalf of all six IRIS-T program nations. The contract has a total volume of approx. 1 billion Euros and makes a major contribution to securing Diehl's core capabilities in the field of missiles. Diehl BGT Defence – Prime Contractor of the European IRIS-T Program Looks like they still don't have any intake trunking on the kit though. Paolo6691
an Italian decal option at last!!! I was wondering if there was a reason behind the decal choices of revel kits, no italian decals in any of the Tornado boxing, no italian decals on the atlantique kit, and none even on the two seater thyphoon. So I am happy Revell at last saw the light java script:emoticon('', 'smid_10') I will get one as soon as I can pay a visit to my local hoppy shop HURRAA!!!
pollie
That decalsheet is just amazing! Must get me a couple of those Tiffies!
Nev
Link here.Looks like they still don't have any intake trunking on the kit though. <_< Regards, Murph I've nearly finished the T1 and to be honest Murph, when constructing it I thought "hey, where's the trunking and engine faces?", but once its together, you don't even notice it. I had forgotten all about it till you said.

I had forgotten all about it till you said. Nev, I used a "scoop" shaped piece of sheet plastic, bent it, and glued it in angled upwards. Given the size of the inlets the effect it provided was good enough. It just surprises me that RofG doesn't give some kind of inlet effect on a kit as good as this. Or their Tornado. Or their Hunter. I think I'm detecting a trend here. Regards, Murph Edited April 21, 2007 by Murph
Ken Middleton
thanks for posting the images. It looks like a fantastic kit. And with a decal sheet like that, I guess I can see why 72nd aftermarket decals don't sell well.

Are you sure..? My Revell 1/72nd Typhoon dual came with AMI decals, I think. Cheers, Andre edit: I just checked, and I have the dual kit that came with the shelter. I don't know if the 'standalone' kit had them. Edited April 21, 2007 by Andre
