I made myself a promise to not build anything new until I did substantial work on my Spruce Goose. Pfft. Guess how long THAT lasted? ;D

I've always liked the lines of the stubby Polikarpov I-16, and a few weeks ago I finally picked one up for myself. The ICM kit was reasonably priced, and I'm VERY glad I got it. After a few days work, here's what we got:

I only have three issues with the kit-

1. The clear windscreen is WAY to flat in the front. This is a problem I will probably fix when I build this kit again. Which you KNOW I will.

2. Decals are barely usable. I snapped a few of them, and one or two REFUSED to settle down, even after two coats of Future. Grr...

3. The engine is superbly detailed. Almost TOO detailed. Each exhaust pipe is a separate piece intended to slip into each hole in the cowling. If you can actually get this to work, you are a god. As for me? On the portions with the cowl closed, I simply snipped off the ends of the pipes and glued them in from the outside. Hey! It works!

All and all, a very enjoyable build. I will definitely be building more of these in the future.

After I get some work done on my Goose, that is.

Hopefully...

Nice work! But you should have joined us at the Eastern Front GB!!!

Alas.... I missed it. :P Although this kit WAS pretty "spur of the moment"...

Thanks, everybody for the comments. In my limited opinion, the best I-16 kit in 1/72 for the money.

And as I said before, I WILL be building more of these. I mean, just LOOK at it- how can you resist?
