Phantomologist
I shot these last summer of 64-0791. Most of the WW antennas/mods are still on her. The most obvious missing piece is the warts on the drag chute door that are missing along with the diamond shaped antennas aft of the radome. The paint scheme is NOT accurate for this jet. These shots will be on my photobucket account for awhile and eventually be on Don's Primeportal site for a lasting web presence. Most of all I hope they help answer your questions! David Walker
Those are fascinating pictures. I'd love to hear more about what the various sensors or for. And that's always been one of my favorite schemes too, even if it's not accurate for that particular aircraft.

Spruemeister
Am I correct in remembering that Monogram includes a strike camera in their 1/48 F-4J? Or am I still not awake yet today.... Cool pics by the way. Edited January 19, 2008 by Spruemeister

ThePhantomTwo
Hey Dave,Totally missed your earlier post on the subject. I should have added my junk there. Sorry, my bad. bill Not a problem Bill,no one can ever have enough Phantom pics, doesn't matter where they are posted I was going to do a F-4C(WW) from our unit(hence all the shots I took) but I'm now going to do the Mig-Killer,63-7623, after talking to it's former crew chief(who later became my flight chief)late last year,I'll do my second F-4C as one of our F-4C(WW) jets,63-7437, LTC. Yarolem's 5,000th Phantom flight hour jet(him, not the jet's!).

tony.t
Wow, thanks to Bill for completing the picture of the modified Sparrow missile well fairing. The F-4Cww is now a 'must-do' project for the big Tamiya, something I've been hankering over doing ever since the big model was released. It's going to take some trial and error to get that fairing right but in 1/32 the (post Vietnam) ALR buttons on the nose and dragchute door are readily accessible from the Master Details set (Cat 32003). Fortunately, the Tamiya scabs on the intakes require only a little work to render them as suitable ER-142 D/F antennae. The diamond antennae around the barrel, and the extra set just fwd of the NLG door, are the only other items requiring scratchbuild treatment, but all doable even in 1:32 without too much effort. BTW, if you're doing a Vietnam era from the Two Bobs you should have the Sparrow fairing included, and fit an ALQ-87 beacon jammer under the front starboard Sparrow well (replaced by an ALQ-119 from around 1974-75 only. ALQ-119s weren't used on Korat birds in 72/73, only during the Frequent Wing evac of Saigon coverage era in April 75). I really hope we get a F-4Cww kit conversion one day. Maybe Eduard will get around to it in 1:48 when they start doing their quarter scale F-4s. After years of hope, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel!!! Oh, and yes, and decals for Lt.Col Yarolem's Indiana jet would also be a treat, but my all-time favourite is the 163rd TFS jet 63-(7)565, which had the blue and gold canopy rail and fin top treatment on a tan and two-tone green wrap-around machine, for which references are sadly incomplete! Thanks for the info ThePhantomTwo! Maybe one day somebody can do a decal sheet for that machine. I've seen the Willy Van Winkle shots Bert Kinzey published but not the ones Don Logan featured - that book sounds like a must-have! (but sadly OOP now? Was it a Schiffer publication?) Jim Rotramel kindly sent me a Monogram 1/48 strike camera fitting for comparison and a basis for scaling-up width, but the WWIV built-in strike camera pallet is altogether different: longer, and angled out in sympathy with the Sparrow well. It'll be an interesting exercise replicating that! Tony T

Tony T Tony, the Don Logan book is my ANG/AFRES Phantom "bible",lots of great pics and tail number listings for each unit. You can still find it on Ebay and other online book stores. It was Schiffer that put it out,I picked mine up from them right after it came out. Jim helped me out with some Phantom decals last year, oddly enough, what I need from them go on a F-86D :) Hopefully I'll be showing that kit on here real soon, starting to make headway with it now, just need to cut some plastic to update the cockpit area.Without Jim,that project would have been tossed aside. :D
