starflyer
I am building AIM-9E Sidewinder for my F-4E Israeli 1/32, I am looking for color and/or good quality images of it around 70's 80's period....better would be images of AIM-9E installed on Israeli aircraft at that period. Probably main color of the body was white, but I am interested in the small details... Thanks to everybody for answers
Murph
The AIM-9E would have been white, with two yellow bands around the warhead section and matte aluminum fuze. The rollerons were also unpainted natural metal. Are you sure they used the AIM-9E, the Israelis tended to use Navy versions of the Sidewinder (AIM-9G/H). Murph
Davide, This is a practice version of the AIM-9E This is a live AIM-9G Almost all photos I have seen of Israeli aircraft from that time frame carrying U.S. AIM-9's have shown them with AIM-9G's. Fishwelding
Twobobs Aviation Graphics makes decals for AIM-9s in 1/32nd scale. I have the 1/48th scale set, and equally good is illustrations of each of the types of sidewinders and how the markings look. That is worth the price alone. Years ago, Jim Rotramel did a great article for Finescale Modeler, the US model magazine, detailing sidewinder missiles. Sadly I don't remember the issue/year, but perhaps someone has it handy? Both ideas would cost you money, but it is an investment.

DonSS3
You might try looking here, no guarantees, but it may be worth a look. http://www.yellowjacketsystems.com/jimball.../sidewinder.htm
mrvark
I found no evidence in my research that AIM-9Es were ever exported. They were modified AIM-9Bs widely used by the USAF during Operation Linebacker and mostly as captive trainers thereafter. The airframe of the widely exported AIM-9D/G/H was completely different. My recommendation is the Cutting Edge set CEC32037 ($25), which gives you four missiles and the Two Bobs' decal sheet 32-027 ($11) for the markings. (With the decal sheet, you'll want to separate the markings as the way they are printed set you up for a 'ball of decal" when you slide them off the backing paper.) Enjoy.
