DasPhule
I finally finished my "What If" digital camo 1/32 Academy F-16 and figured I'd get some feedback on what you guys think of it. I took it to the Orlando IPMS Modelpalooza last weekend and apparently they liked it. I won Best in Show, Best Aircraft, the Mike Goins award, and a 1st in 1/32 A/C with it, all came as a huge surprise! I was so worried everyone would think it stupid, and I'm blown away that I was wrong! They really liked it! Whodathunkit?!? Anyway, here's the link to the pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dasphule/sets...57602536314312/ Let me know what you guys think! Erin <*>

hazmatt
Nice Viper! I like how you put your name on the canopy sill. I'm going to have to do that sometime! BTW, where are you located? There are a few of us down here in Central FL. Did you meet any ARCr's at the show? I know a few of them went . . . without me. Matt
ChernayaAkula
Wow! Now that's cool!
stealthy1
Awesome....now to the question: how'd you do the paint scheme? Masking tape squares?
DasPhule
Thanks guys! It was a fun build. Richard, do you mean in total (all models entered) what I won or just what the plane won? I took 14 models and only two didn't win awards, and the F-16 won the 4 that I mentioned in my first post. Funny you reference that picture, it's the shot that inspired me to do this plane! Next up I'm doing the Slovakian MiG-29 in the digi scheme shown in the picture on my Flickr account, same folder as the F-16 shots. Matt, I'm in Tampa. As for meeting ARC guys, I don't know if I met any or not. I may have, but no one identified themselves as ARC dudes, at least not to me. I'd love to meet up with ya, though! The club I hang with, the Florida Peacekeepers, is a small bunch of guys who take nothing seriously. We started out as an anti IPMS club of discouraged sci fi guys, but I've got all of them back to building pretty much everything and attending IPMS shows. We occasionally meet at a local chinese restaurant, but we usually just meet here at my house in Brandon. We're not a regimented club, just a buncha guys who build models, hanging out and doing shows and local airshows and the like. We're spread out all over the place. One guy is in Orlando, one in Port Charlotte, one in Hudson, one in south Tampa, me in east Tampa, and a couple of guys who rarely show up. We're always looking for new folk to join in our stupidity. PM me if ya wanna come drink sake with us and hang out fondling plastic! Stealthy; the digi camo is easier than it looks. All you do is paint a normal camo job, but instead of smooth masked edges to each color you use squares cut from 6mm Tamiya tape to make the edges. Randomly move the squares around, add in a stray square occasionally, spray paint, move on to the next color. Repeat until done. Time consuming, but not difficult at all. rjwood_uk
Hi Erin, No I ment did you win anything as an actual prize. Not what catagories you won. Richard
DasPhule
Other than plaques and medals, no. It's rare to win prizes, at least in my experiences. In fact, I can only think of one show, Wonderfest in Louisville, that gives out prizes, and even those are only for a couple of specific awards. While I love a nice plaque or glass trophy, I'd rather win a big, expensive model I normally couldn't afford instead. I'm running out of room for trophies and plaques, and medals are really difficult to display. I know my wife would rather I won money!! Erin <*>

Fat Russian
Very cool, Looking forward to seeing the MiG when it's done. What colors did you use on your F-16? Eric S.
DasPhule
The base color is Flanker Blue Medium on top and bottom. The camo is made up of Light Ghost Grey, Dark Ghost Grey, and Gunship Grey. All colors are Testors MM enamels. Erin <*>
