Zactoman
Now available: 1/32 MiG-29A Correction Set for the Revell kit: Details at www.Zactomodels.com Update: The correction set now includes full length intakes: If you've already purchased the correction, the intakes are available separately. 1/32 MiG-29 exhausts for the Trumpeter kit: Details at www.Zactomodels.com ________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________ Alexander Rogal, "Eastern" here at ARC has been working on some spectacular tailcones to replace those included in the Trumpeter MiG-29K/M kit. He is providing me with the tooling to produce the parts in kit form! The tailcones will be a direct replacement for those provided in the Trumpeter kits and will include detailed resin parts with photo-etch flame holders. The parts are still in progress as is the rest of his MiG-29M. Check out his progress as well as his other models on his website: http://pilot64.gallery.ru/ Here are a few pics of his work so far... I can't wait to pour rubber on this stuff! Edited September 22, 2011 by Zactoman
Zactoman
I have been working on adapting the new tailcones to the Revell kit and what a big difference they make! I built the tailcone adapters using the old Revell tool. Cutting is required but I designed the adapters to fit easily. Revell "corrected" the kit to eliminate the big step present in front of the tailcones, but included the same drastically undersized exhausts! Unfortunately in "correcting" the kit they tapered the engine tunnels all the way back from where the separate intake parts mate. This will mean some additional cutting and extra resin will be required to use my parts with the newer tool. I'll be posting more pictures in the coming days... 31Tiger
WOW!! I like the stuff for the Revell kit, have a UB waiting to be build for years now, never got it started because of the shape off things around the exhaust area. I will buy a set when it comes out!
Tricose
Oh Great Zacto Your stuff looks freakin' amazing. I got two birds in the pile that will definately need your help! It's really nice to see someone doing stuff for the Revell kits finally. Can hardly wait for the release! Tricose
Dave Williams
Sounds great, Chris! I've got a couple of the Revell kits just waiting for your sets.
Alpagueur
That's awesome! At last we'll be able to build a correct shaped Luftwaffe Fulcrum, or in any case an old A-version (9.12) I'll also be waiting for the detailed exhausts for the MiG-29M kit since I have one. regards, Luca
falcon91352
YOU MAKE MY DAY !!!! Please don´t forget the intakes, which are a too small in the Revell kit. Cheers Christian
loftycomfort
Chris, Glad to see these finally released. The tailcones look fantastic! Man oh man what a diffference between them and the kit versions. There're plenty of Revell Fulcrums out there going for cheap, so hopefully this set will sell well. Terry
Firecaptain
Sounds great Chris, I'm in for the burners for the Trumpy Mig. illithid00
Zactoman, when I eventually switch from the one true scale (1/72) over to 1/32, I blame you and your awesome aftermarket.
Bob Rock
Revell kit really needs some wheel wells, the kit ones are absolute rubbish. Cheers,Miro.
kap64
That's aweseome! I'm glad I haven't started mine yet.
Flankerman
FWIW....... I built the Revell 1:32 scale single-seat MiG-29 about 20+ years ago - when it was first released. I modified the 'stepped' engine trunking and scratch-built exhaust cans from plastic tubing and sheet strip - but nowhere near as good the as-ever superb Zacto conversions. I finished it in the blue-and-white Russian Aerobatic Team colours - the 'Strijhi' (Swifts) - and it was here that I found another accuracy issue. When I tried to apply my home-made blue lightning stripe that runs from the spine, along the fuselage below the cockpit and on to the nose, I couldn't get it to fit below the cockpit. After much head-scratching, I realised that the fuselage area below the cockpit is completely wrong. On the real MiG-29 the cockpit sides are almost vertical - and blend in to the front of the LERX low down. On the Revell kit, the LERX is way too fat - and meets the cockpit sides too far up - in other words there was not enough vertical side area to fit the blue lightning flash :P The too-fat LERX also means that my scratch-built red-painted anti-FOD 'box' that goes over the upper intake doors had to be modified to fit the oddly-sloped LERX. Just thought I'd mention it.................... Ken
Dave Williams
To be honest, about the only way to make a 100% accurate MiG-29 from the Revell kit is to make a completely new kit. We could go on and on about this and that needs to be fixed, but at some point one has to stop and be realistic about how big and expensive a "correction" set is going to be. It sounds to me like Chris has hit on the big things to fix that are most important to people and I can't wait for the set to come out, even though it won't fix every single thing wrong with the kit. JasonB
Better throw in a new IRST sensor as well. In addition to all the other errors mention, this one sort of stands out. Oh, I recall that the chaff/flare dispenssors in front of the vertical stabs are significantly off as well. The weapons arent real good either. The Revell kit was I believe a scale up of their 1/48th kit, which was created prior to any available first hand looks at the real thing, and it shows. I can see that these are great items as usual, but an odd choice IMHO, as the Revell kit is so flawed (and thats from me and I am pretty much a "close enough" modeler) that as Dave said, it would take pretty much a new kit to fix some of the biggest issues. I would not want to pour that much cash into all this great stuff for that particular kit, but it will be interesting to see what can come of it.

I don't remember Revell doing a 1/48 MiG-29, but if you are thinking of the Monogram kit, the 1/32 Revell kit has absolutely nothing to do with that horrible kit. The truth is that, at the time, the big Revell kit was probably the most accurate kit of all those out there. Most of the available kite were 1/72 and based on photos of some early MiGs that visited Finland. The Revell kit was the first that had the later production mods like the extended rudders, chaff dispensers in front to the tails, correct details like the offset nose gear strut, a center line tank that approached how the real thing actually looked like, the correct number of wing pylons that look something like the real things, and so on. Unfortunately, unless someone does a new kit, it's this or nothing. Trumpeter would probably have been the best option, but I think they shot their wad with the M and K kits. I think the only other realistic potential option is if RoG does one.
janman
To be honest, about the only way to make a 100% accurate MiG-29 from the Revell kit is to make a completely new kit. Or... If we just could get a Super Massive Correction Set to make a perfect MiG-29 in 1/32! Even I might consider buying that although I'm a devouted 1/72 guy and the price would most likely steal most of my joy...

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks Dave :(Yes the kit has at least minor flaws from nose to tail and wing tip to wing tip (which also need to be corrected) but it's the only game in town... However with a little paint and TLC, even a completely OOB build can look nice. Even nice enough to win a first place at the IPMS Nats in 1991! I would like to do a 'completely' corrected kit, but that would just get too expensive. I haven't decided on a price yet, but the correction set and kit combined should be cheaper than Trump's MSRP! And you get a MiG-29A rather than a MiG-29M! ;)
Youngtiger1
Oh nicely done Chris. I have 2 revell kits that will love your set. :( Mike
stusbke
looks great and all that but what about the airbrake does it take soem trimming to install the larger burner cans in there I know SKII had a mig 29 build up here and he used soem codac film canesters to get to the bigger radius of the exhausts and he had to trim the airbrake is this also need for this set wich looks totaly awesome BTW Greetz STB Frederick Jacobs
RedStar
Looks great - definitely a barrier that has kept me away from the 1/32 project. Shame that Trumpeter didn't do production versions (but that's already been done to death). The Engine/Exhaust corrections will go a long way to fixing the kit, now we need Aires to move through and do their cockpit and wheel well updates, we need new Wheels, new pylons, new weapons, and then one more for Chris - A Fulcrum-C spine for the 9.13 birds that are so prevalent in Russian service (and have some of the better markings). Then we need good decals, both regular markings and stencils.... Lots left to do for that beastie!
Dave Williams
I'm planning to use the pylons and weapons from the Trumpeter weapons set on mine. Better than the kit weapons, especially their AA-11s, but I don't care for the Trumpeter AA-8s.
