ReccePhreak
I know that the general consensus is, that the color of F6F Hellcat wheel wells should be the same as the color of the underside of the wing. Well I am building an F6F-5K, and the paint scheme I am using has a gray fuselage with yellow wings and tail. In that instance, would they have painted the wheel wells yellow like the wings, or left them gray? I have been unable to find any photographic proof of either color. TIA. gmat
Larry, How about this photo? http://www.palba.cz/forumfoto/albums/userp...1078/f6f_17.jpg It shows the left main landing gear and the inside of the gear door. Best wishes, Grant

Best wishes, Grant Grant, Thanks for that photo link. It looks like they not only painted the wheel wells the same color as the red wing, they also painted the gear doors AND the landing gear strut the same color. DT-28B in the engine grey, yellow and red scheme. This photo of a DT-28B would indicate that some aircraft did not paint the landing gear and perhaps the wheel wells different. http://www.chinalakealumni.org/IMAGES/1959...mmm59%20CLK.jpg DT-28B Trojan BuNo 138296, location unknown, May 1959 Photographer unknown. http://www.chinalakealumni.org/IMAGES/1961...20C-Jansson.jpg T28-BD Trojan BuNo 138296, NAF China Lake, November 1961. ReccePhreak
Thanks for those links Grant. Wish the photos were bigger, so I could see the detail better. Larry
