MiG31
Following the work reported in this thread, I've finished the Blackbird. Following Reaper2006's technique of pre-shading with various colors, I think I've done justice to the heat-stained look of the SR-71. Now on to the photos: In summary, the Monogram kit was supplemented by the following: -Airframe completely re-scribed -Replaced cockpit/canopy section with that from the Italeri 1:72 YF-12A -Scratch-built astro-navigation port and IFR port -Main wheel wells completely scratch-built, with details added to the nose wheel well -Landing light and grounding strap added to nose gear -Hollowed out fuel dump port -Removed raised box panel on each vertical fin -Scratch-built J58 afterburner with parts from Italeri YF-12 kit -Added triangular RCS-reducing panels to wing leading and trailing edges -Added pitots to forward end of nacelles -Tweaked inboard elevon details, and drooped them slightly -Added ECM antennae under nose

thegoodsgt
I like it! So rare to see an SR-71 done that well in 1/72 scale.
richter111
Habu eh? Sounds like someone else was in Okinawa! Great bird, looks really good, especially the cockpit area! The extra work you put forth in this area really shows up!

PoseidonSv
The triangular wedges on the wing leadingedge should they really be that way that the triangels are like added on triantulars fron the edge pointing inwards and not the other way so that the triangels will trap radar energy so that it bounces around and gets dispersed? I have not seen any good photos of this myself. I love this SR71A build the best one i ever saw actually!
Reaper2006
Great build! I'm glad that my build was usefull to you....

MiG31
Thread necromancy! The triangular panels were done in a way that fits with this photo. You can see that the base of the panels is arranged on the edge of the wing, with the opposite point turned inward. I also observed this on 61-7961, displayed at the Kansas Cosmosphere, though the linked photo from the Udvar-Hazy center shows it pretty clearly.
