Some 1/32 A-6 Intruder news

Recommended Posts

Saw this on another forum that I can't link to for some reason?

Personally, I'm more interested in the 1/32 EA-6B!

To all Intruder fans,

The new Trumpeter 1/32nd scale A-6A Intruder kit is progressing towards a release later this year ie: 2010. I can not pin point the exact date because once the test shot is released there may be some delays caused by the need to make corrections. Everyone is hoping for a no later than mid December release date. Just in time for Christmas.

The A-6A will be released first followed by the A-6E and finally the EA-6B Prowler in 2011. The progress has been slow because this is a big kit with a lot of parts and a lot of weapon choices. Also because of the much anticipated interest in ths kit it is essential that Trumpeter "get it right" this time.

I've already reviewed the line drawings and the 3D CAD renderings the only thing left to do is review the first plastic sprues comming off the assembly line. I anticipate going to the factory in Zhongshan in late summer to review the first test shot. Hopefully there won't be too many corrections to make.

One thing modelers should be ready to accept is a common weapons package for the A-6A and A-6E. The Intruder served over a 30 year period and that meant that there were many advances in weapons development during it's service life. Instead of making one set for the Vietnam era and one set for Desert Storm it was decided to just make one set for both eras. So you will see some modern weapons (circa 1990's) included in the A-6A (Vietnam era) kit. You will need to check your references carefully to make sure you use the appropriate weapons for the A-6A version.

That's all for now...hang in there. As the monkey said after his tail got cought in the lawn mower: "It won't be long now".

It won't be cheap I guess. Expect it to be the same as the F-14 and F-18 being released this year and last year.

One problem. There is zero aftermarket for this. So I might end up building one. And then another 3 years later when there's a lot of extra stuff out there.

But I do hope it's worth it. Hell, it can't be that hard to improve upon the 20 year old Revell tooling in 1/48. In 32nd this will be a big sucker though. I need to start thinking about a new house. Personally I'd be just as happy with them releasing it in 48th.

As for weapons, well my motto is in my sig.....

Cockpit references standing by...ready to scale up my 1/48 cockpit project to 1/32 in a heartbeat. Hopefully Trumpeter won't screw this up or I won't bother with the effort.

A 1/32 EA-6B...I'd have no room. I'd have to sell my unbuilt 1/48 B-1B to make space.

My fav jet also!

I want to believe this one will be superb, but I know better than to be an early adopter with Trumpeter so I'll wait, like we've all been waiting for how many years now?

I'm surprised they were able to keep it on their plate this long without someone else beating them to it.

They don't exactly play their cards close to their vest when it comes to upcoming releases and the modeling world has been hearing about their 1/32 A-6 intentions for years.

They've left a big wide window for someone else to design and tool one and get it to the shelves since they first announced theirs.

Mind you, perhaps that's simply reflective of the rest of the manufacturers not having much faith in the commercial viability of a 1/32 A-6 line.

Like who...

With the exception of Trumpeter 1/32 jets aren't exactly manufacturers favourites. Apart from trumpeter new releases in this genre are few and far between

Too big, and dare say it not that much of market.

Last I saw it was SUPPOSED to be by the end of the year. Now Trumpy has announced up to October releases in Asia...so there is still a posibility.

I hope it is so when I go rumourmongering I'll quit getting asked about it! :)
