I have a strange question about German fuel drums from WW II, I'm referring to the 200L size. Do they have rubber barrel hoops around the middle and ends? I have some in 1:48 from Tamiya and the they say to paint this part flat black. I also have a picture from the Squadron Walkaround on the BF-109E that shows what appears to be rubber rings around the barrels. Any ideas? Or suggestions where to post this to get more meaningful responses?

My guess:

1) it's an earlier type than the ones with the reinforcement ribs, with a rubber-covered reinforcement strip.

2) it's the type with the reinforcement ribs, but with a rubber protection so as not to scratch paint from rolling the barrel or drums stacked close to one another etc.

All this from no other source than educated guess.

In any case, as the war progressed and rubber became scarce, those covers must have disappeared.

They must have worn pretty fast too... I'd work the mwith a knife and paint them real dirty.
