YF-16 FSD no. 3, #50747, in two-tone scheme.

Recommended Posts

Hi Eric,

That aircraft was actually in a three tone scheme, details here from an article written by Ed Yarborough which may have been published in an IPMS USA magazine:

Entire undersides (everything thing below the wing line) were FS36440 except the outsides of the ventral fins which were FS36270.

Light grey on upper surface was FS36270.

Dark grey on upper surface was FS36076.

Wing walk way lines were painted FS36270 on top of FS36076 and vice versa on surfaces painted FS36270.

The two fuselage national insignia had FS36270 stars and FS36076 bars and disc - the wing marking was the other way round.

Cheers,

Haydn.

Hello Haydn,

I was planning to work on the same project, your information is truly amazing.

I have two more questions you might answer as well:

FSD No.4, #50740 overall 36440?

FSD No.5,#50749 overall 36473?

Do you have info about them as well?

Best

Try this one.

I do have a crystal clear picture of half of the left fuselage from the DOD image library, but currently the server seems to be down, or they locked out non US IP-adresses again.

Perfect picture Lancer! I intend to build all the FSD aircraft. I believe one very early A pre production aircraft was used in overal grey at Edwards for testing the parabreak housing for Norwegian deliveries. It would be good to post prototype pics in this topic?

Wow! Haven't seen these pictures, yet. Great share!

Is that a B-61 shape under the belly on the last picture?

This are the two pictures of the third FSD F-16, which I found on the official US DoD Image Library. Edited to fit the forum size.

Looking very smart Haydn!! :woot.gif:/> Do you remember which colour you used for the Dark grey on top? I did do an search for the FS number, I think I am going to use Revell 78 or Humbrol equivilent.

Thanks Eric ! (Don't forget to remove the ecm aerial at the base of the tail fin on yours !)

I used Xtracolor enamels on mine, the dark grey FS36076 is Xtracolor X128.

Cheers,

Haydn.

Thanks for posting historical pics. Always liked 50747's scheme. The LHS used to have the 1/32 Hasegawa kit on display (when I was young and couldn't afford such a kit). For AFTI I am waiting for someone to make the decals in 1/32 scale. The other hinderance was resolved when I found a shot of the intake with the canard bulges. I would prefer to build it gray nose/canards or Pave Penny/Canards. Was just too cool with the added canard capability.
