CF104
Hi All, Here's my build of another 1/48 AFV Club F-5E. This one is in the markings of the 65th Aggressor Squadron. I used Royale Resin wheels, AMS exhausts and late ejection seat, Quickboost pitot probe, Afterburner decals and inlet covers from Steel Beach. I also used a spare AIM-9L and ACMI pod from my Tamiya F-16C/N kit. The colors are custom mixed Tamiya acrylics with the camo sprayed free hand with my H&S Infinity. Wash is Flory Models. I'm generally happy with the results but I feel my dark panel wash is a bit too dark. Something I still need to work on is my panel washes and post shading. Here's the pics. Thanks for looking! Cheers, John
cabo91
Nice build. I like Aggressors. How was it to work on the AFV kit as opposed to the old Monogram?
yvesff
Very nice ! :wub:/> Ain't that kit a god-send ? You say this is your second kit, where is the first ? Are you planning to build the Kinetic CF-5 ??
CF104
Very nice ! :wub:/>/>/>/>/> Ain't that kit a god-send ? You say this is your second kit, where is the first ? Are you planning to build the Kinetic CF-5 ?? Thanks! It sure is a nice little kit. I still have an AFV F-5F in the stash that I'm going to build in US Navy or US Marine Bandit markings from the Two Bobs 48-239 sheet. Just waiting for my KASL Hobby cockpit to show up before I start it. BTW, here is my first AFV F-5E. Click Here I have two of the Kinetic CF-5's that I'm going to build. One will be a CF-5A and the second probably an NF-5A. I'm hoping for some good aftermarket cockpit to come along to improve the kit pit though. What markings are you doing your CF-5 in? CF104
Nice build. I like Aggressors. How was it to work on the AFV kit as opposed to the old Monogram? It's been something like 25+ years since I built the Monogram kit so I'll have to defer your question to the experts in that kit to answer it. What I can say is that the AFV kit is a real pleasure to build. Cheers, John
sharkey
That's a beautiful aggressor.

CF104
What technique do you use on your exhaust? Gel pen? Curt Hi Curt, The exhaust is done with Alclad II. The base color is stainless steel and then I lightly airbrushed exhaust color in between the frames to give it a bit of a distressed, worn look. Cheers, John
EagleAviation
Absolutely stunning work. I like the attention on detail.
chuck540z3
EXCELLENT build John! I love the paint scheme and the rear exhaust area is truly outstanding. Only nit- and I only offer this because it's the CC Forum- is that the base of the windscreen has too big of a gap. Admittedly this is a favorite criticism of mine, because many modelers pop the windscreen on at the end of the build, which always leaves a gap that shouldn't be there or one that's too noticable. If you puttied it in before painting and left a subtle panel line, it would look a lot smoother. For the Flory wash (ProModeler?), it is a bit too dark maybe, but I've found that even after spraying dull coat, a microbrush soaked in Windex will get a lot of the wash out of the panel lines if you want to tone down the odd area. Of course you'll need to re-spray the dull coat to touch up those areas if you do. Again, really nice workmanship!
CF104
Hey Chuck, Thanks for taking a look. Canopies are one of my weak points that I need to work on. Actually they are one part of the build that I sort of dread to some degree. I promise to step up and improve my canopy work in the future. Thanks for the tips on the wash. My next build is the Tamiya 1/48 F4D-1 Skyray and I hope to improve the wash on that... along with the canopy. I also picked up TheDetailer wash as you have shown excellent results in your P-51 build. Can't wait to give it a try on the Skyray. Cheers, John
