rom
Hello! here is my in progress build. Maybe the most impressive and big model I ever seen. I start with this huge box: I will use these addons: - Eduard 48235 http://www.eduard.com/store/Eduard/B-1B-1-48.html?cur=1&listtype=search&searchparam=48325 - Cutting Edge exhausts http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/bonenozzlepreviewbg_1.htm - Fox One Decal 48027 " Early Bones" http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/b1bdecalreviewsjk_1.htm LET'S GO!!!! First I had to deal with those huge plastic trees. They are fragile and parts are easily falling from them. So, i cut parts and packed them: OK, well... the box is big... Recycling? :bandhead2:/> Eduard PE sheets give you some nice parts for the cockpit. But I won't use them all. Seatbelts: Access ladder:
rom
Ejector pins... maaaaaaaaaaany of them: Some PE and... filler... Main Gear Bay: Front gear bay: Detail are very nice indeed... Now, bomb bays: I slightly reworked the bay doors.
rom
Ready for primer! Tamiya spray primer for the cockpit: Citadel Skull white for the bays: The rendering of white is not so good.Too mmuch flat/matt for me. But it is just a primer. The final paint will be done with Tamiya paint. The big fuel tank is also reworked and detailed:

Surfaces are rough.. filler and sanding.. again... here too: tada!!

JMan
Hey Rom just a quick question......the inserts you are putting into the intakes.....are those splitter plates?? Cant wait to see her all finished up!
Check Six
Awesome start to a monster of a model kit! I have one in the stash. I'll be following you build to take notes for when I do mine. I really like how you are tackling the engine intakes and such.
rom
Thanks guys! Jman, I guess "splitter plates" is the right name for the plastic inserts I added. For now I just have dry fited one. Still a lot of work in the intakes. Cheers! Romain
Joel_W
Romain, Just tackling a model that big is a major accomplishment, that not many of us would even consider it. So far your build has been really spectacular. Those intake splitters are looking real good. Joel
rom
Hi, Thanks Joel! Here is the cockpit. Base color is Humbrol 128, stain coated with Microscale varnish. Then details are painted with Prince August Acrylics. Basic works. That will be not so visible once the cockpit is sealed. I did it in a single evening. Was fun though... Bye!! Major Walt
Beautiful work! I have that kit, but I lack the courage to attempt it. I love the way your build is going.
chuck540z3
Great work as usual rom. I already have a suggestion and you're not even there yet! As much as you and I LOVE our dirty jets, the B-1's are usually fairly clean, so I'd go light on the weathering of this one. I'm doing the same on my Hog build. Most of the A-10's are just not that dirty, although there's always exceptions. I've seen a few B-1's up close and they are as clean as F-15E's usually are. Keep up the great work! rom
Thanks guys! Chuck, I plan to paint a 3 tones camo. They maybe werent that dirty, but colors seem to be toned down and weathered. as you said..Im far from this stage now ^^ Bye
Joel_W
rom, Nicely done pit considering so little of it will be seen once the fuselage is buttoned up. Still, knowing that it's there where it should be is a major plus. As far as weathering goes, once a aircraft becomes operational, proper maintenance and cleaning will certainly help to keep it as clean as possible, but it won't stop paint from fading, or some normal wear and tear in high traffic or work areas. JMan
Very nice lookin pit. Cant wait to see her all buttoned up!!!!
rom
Thank you guys ;^) Here are some updates. Being arounde the cockpit, I carried out with (trying) to glue the side windows. In fact, opening in the fuselage are wider than tranparent parts.. I had to play with liquid cement and testor's white glue: Then I continued work on the belly's bays. After Citadel's Skull White, I sprayed tamiya X2 white. The paint is then protected with a few layers of Microscale Satin's clear cote: All the parts painted white: Stored after clear cote... ... in order to get a sun drying :D/>/>/> Result: Then I applied a wide wash using sepia oil and Tamyia black wash: Edited September 29, 2014 by rom
