loftycomfort
Thank goodness there's Flanker mania here, so I thought I'd show some progress of my build. As you can see, I plan on doing a splinter camo on this Trump 1/32 su-27 (Linden Hill decals will be applied). The black box cockpit is already installed, airframe construction was mostly completed. The model was primed, pre-shading and base coat was applied. The underside pale blue was also applied, engine area painted with Alclad, the masking on the top is mostly done. Then I decided to ordered the Zacto model's canopy kit, not realizing that it's not a "drop-in" replacement, so off came the masking tape at the nose, and a week worth of additional work was needed to install it. It was worth it though, cuz the new windscreen has a much better shape than the kit one. So this is the current state it is in now. I hope to finish up the canopy, masking, and start painting again sometime this week. cheers and thanks for looking.
dreammh
Yeah I bought the Zacto canopy set too. Its gonna be a toughie cutting it out since I really hate vacuforms. I bet the most fatal step will be seperating the canopy from the windscreen. I have no idea how I am gonna do that safely yet. I am sure your flanker will look really much spiced up with zacto's canopy set.
loftycomfort
dreammh: actually, cutting the windscreen from the canopy was easier than I thought. just use masking tape as cutting guide and make sure you use a brand new blade that's nice and sharp. the plastic is sturdy enough to make the cutting relatively easy. i find the hardest part to be fitting the IRST to the nose and getting a smooth joint. geedubelyer
<_< Great work so far.......the cockpit looks the business :o The splinter cammo looks like it's a lot of hard work but the end results will be superb. Thanks for posting. Keep 'em comin'
Wasserfall
As you can see, I plan on doing a splinter camo on this Trump 1/32 su-27 (Linden Hill decals will be applied). Looking very good The more Flankers the better  do you have a example of the camoscheme you are doing? is it the Ukranianversion?, because Ukranian decals of Lindenhill i haven't seen yet thanks for the pics

Linden Hill's "Flankers on Patrol - From Sun up to Sun Down" has the decals for it in 1/32, although the painting instructions are incomplete. I found complete painting guide in the Hi-Decal 1/48 "African Flankers" decal set.

loftycomfort
some updates (sorry, no pics, too lazy)... the pale blue on the splinter camo is done. now i'm in the process of masking that up, in preparation for the spraying of medium green. i'm already on my 5th row of tamiya masking tape. i think so far i've spent more time on masking than on the resin cockpit, the zacto canopy set, airframe construction, and painting COMBINED. it's a very tedious thing to do and i'm getting tired of it. the way i do the 3-tone splinter camo is this: trace the outline of color #1 with masking tape, then mask off areas of #2 and #3, spray color #1. repeat same steps for colors #2 and #3. this is the only way i can think of that won't have overspray resulting in loss of the pre-shading. the downside is there is A LOT of masking that has to be done meticulously. it's almost like covering the whole huge airframe with masking tape, 3 times! this thing better look good when it's done or i'll be mighty ******. this is the last time i'll ever do a splinter on a jet. urgh. loftycomfort
FINALLY finished the camo painting. the airframe paintjob is complete, there's only some minor touching-up to be done. next up is painting other smaller parts (landing gears, wheel well doors etc), then future > decal > weathering... etc.

loftycomfort
thank you all for your feedback and kind comments. here are some more pics: i never bothered to show the underside of the flanker ('cos i thought it's less exciting than the top), but here it is: the kit decal for the intake chevron is red-yellow, but reference photos show the eritrean flankers to have the yellow-blue chevron. since the linden hill decals set don't provide it, i'll have to either find them in another AM decal set (yeah, fat chance) or paint them myself. i chose the latter option. here it is. there's no magic to it, just masking tape and an airbrush: trumpeter gives two options to make the 3-finger antenaes (PE or plastic) on the tail boom and underneath the radome. unfortunately, both are over sized. i took the PE antennae base and made the antennaes with stretch sprue. very simple: thank you for looking. cheers Terry PS: see you guys at the Ajax show tomorrow. Flankerman
Terry, Excuse me if you already know this but.......... The 'three-fingered' antenna is an IFF aerial - and the fingers are meant to be different lengths - hence the ASCC reporting name 'Odd Rods'. But you already know this and are going to cut them down later........... right ? Ken PS - Great work BTW.....

heavykev
The splinter scheme looks awesome. It gives it a Luftwaffe-ish look with the greens compared to the usuall blue splinter. might be tempted to try this scheme myself. cheers Kev
loftycomfort
updates: I future'd the airframe during the week. Now I'm in the middle of decaling. The ERAF flag and insignia is from Linden Hill, the stencils are trumpeter's kit decals. here she is sitting on top of a Acad 1/48 mig-29 box: I'm no photography expert so I'm not sure why the medium green looks so blu-ish in this photo: the engine area was painted with various shades of Alclad. It's all taped up so you can't see it, though. sorry. finally, here's the BB cockpit pic thrown in for good measures: thanks for looking.
