Been working on this one for a little while now. One word: TEDIOUS. At first, I was trying to copy the scheme exactly, but then I started to lose my mind.

I started with FS36081 (the darkest gray), masked, then FS35237 (medium gray), masked again, then FS36320 Dark Ghost Gray, masked one last time, then a final coat of FS36375 Light Ghost Gray (all Model Master).

When masking, I tried to keep all of the "blotches" parallel/perpendicular to the lines of the aircraft.

I like the overall effect, but I know that FS36081 is too dark; FS35237 should have been used less, and I'll have to "knock down" some raised paint edges. I also made some custom decals for this bird (there's a pic), and on the sheet is a whole bunch of other stuff that comes in handy. The markings for this bird are in the upper left hand corner of the sheet. I had to use Amarillo USAF font for the script; the font I have for LongBeach USN doesn't skew or italicize. The Amarillo does however look very close to the reference photos I have of this plane. Well, here are the pics...any tips, advice is appreciated!

Im really liking it and I feel your pain, I did the 441 Checker CF-18 last year. The only thing I might recommend is putting some darker colours nearer the edges, and a couple lighter spots in the large dark areas. Overall an excellent job.

One I wont attempt .

Thanks all for the kind comments. I can tell I'm going to be tweaking this one for a while. This one is going to be Double Nuts (00) from -314. I found other pics of 200, so i'll eventually do that one also. With that one, I'm going to drop the flaps/ailerons and really go nuts. I'll post more pics as I progress.

Thanks again!
